Phaneromeni church is honoured by the presence in its yard of the Mausoleum where the remnants of Cypriot leaders massacred by the Turks during the tragic events of July 9 1821.
Archbishop Kyprianos, Metropolitans of Paphos Chrysanthos, Kitiun Meletios and Kyrenia Lavrentios and other prominent greekcypriot citizens and clergymen where among those executed by the Turks. Forty days erlier the Turks also executed father Leontios, a senior clergymen with the Phaneromeni church. The Monument also contains the remnants of Dionisios Kykkotis, head of the Phaneromeni priests.
Made by Penteli marble the Mausoleum was completed in 1930.
