Why Do Travelers Have To Walk Through Metal Detectors?September 11, 2001 – the day that shook the entire world; 3 passenger airlines were hijacked and used as missiles, destroying the Twin Towers of New York and damaging a part of the Pentagon, resulting to the deaths of thousands of innocent people. This tragic attack not only alerted the United States, but also the other countries as well as the message was clear from this attack – no country is safe from terrorism.

And due to this tragedy, countries made sure that their airports and other buildings are completely safe and secure. Security personnel on airports were trained in order to control and avoid such tragedies from happening ever again. Several security cameras were installed in various areas of the airport, allowing them to scan the area for criminals and other suspicious people. Security has been improved overall, and every passenger boarding a plane is required to be subjected to a series of tests before they are given access to the airline tarmac.

A Series of Tests – Ensuring the Security of Passengers

Airports usually require each passenger to submit themselves to a series of security tests. This is done not only to ensure the safety of all passengers, but to also prevent another tragedy from happening again, as well as prevent any criminals or terrorists from making their way inside passenger airlines to commit crimes or terrorist activities.

The first security test passengers must pass is the walk-through metal detector test. Metal detectors are devices that can easily detect illegal items (e.g. illegal and unlicensed weapons, illegal drugs, metallic devices that can harm other passengers, etc.) from a person’s body. These metal detectors are very much useful in detecting people with criminal intent, as they can use these items in order to enact their nefarious deeds.

Most airports use advanced metal detectors, such as the Garrett PD6500i walk-through metal detector, in order to detect even the most concealed item on the target’s body. Metal detectors can scan the target’s body from head to foot and left to right in order to ensure that no illegal items will make it on any of the passenger airlines. Advanced metal detectors like the Garrett PD6500i metal detector can even detect illegal items even if they are kept inside the body (e.g. ingested). These advanced metal detectors can help in discovering strategic ploys masterminded by criminals.

Why You Should Be Subjected To A Metal Detector Test?

As mentioned above, every passenger is required to pass the metal detector test in order to ensure the security of all passengers, as well as the airport’s staff. And while you may have no intention of committing a crime, you may possess some items in you that may do harm to other people, or worse, to the passenger airline.

By submitting yourself to a metal detector test, not only are you reassuring the security personnel that you have no criminal intent whatsoever, but also reassuring yourself that you will be safe all throughout your trip towards your destination.
